Compact 4-axis CNC hot wire cutting machine for workshops, model making, prototyping and sign making – from 2D cuts to twisted contours.
With the CUT1600S, you can produce contours, models and cut parts from EPS, XPS and EPP in-house – from one-off pieces and samples to prototypes and small batches. Instead of outsourcing each cut, you control the contour, material and timing yourself.
The CUT1600S Series is a 4-axis CNC hot wire cutting machine for EPS, XPS and EPP boards as well as small EPS blocks up to approximately 650 mm high.
Four CNC axes enable both standard 2D contours and tapered or twisted cuts. This makes the machine suitable for simple cuts as well as parts whose contour changes along their length.
During hot wire cutting, a heated wire separates the material thermally, without mechanical cutting forces. The material is neither displaced nor deformed during cutting and does not need to be clamped.
The two models, CUT1610S and CUT1610SV, differ mainly in their machine tables and available wire lengths. The best version depends on your parts and applications.
The CUT1600S is designed for flexible in-house production of individual parts, samples and small batches.
With the CUT1600S, you bring cutting in-house. Contours and parts can be produced as needed without outsourcing.
Dimensions and contours often change when producing samples, prototypes and one-off parts. New or revised drawings can be implemented and cut directly on the machine.
Recurring parts can be produced again at any time using saved cutting programs. The CUT1600S is therefore also suitable for small batches of identical contours.
With the CUT1600S, you can produce a wide range of parts and contours from boards and small blocks – from simple cuts to tapered or twisted 4-axis geometries.
Contour-cut letters and logos made from XPS for advertising, exhibition stands and shopfitting.
Individual parts, samples and prototypes made from EPS, XPS and EPP for development and sample production.
Wings and components made from EPP for model aircraft and drones, including tapered and twisted 4-axis contours.
The CUT1600S processes EPS (Styrofoam), XPS and EPP boards as well as small EPS blocks up to approximately 650 mm high.
EPS boards and small EPS blocks are particularly well suited to hot wire cutting. Simple cuts, profiles and contours as well as tapered and twisted 4-axis cuts are possible.
XPS boards can also be contour-cut, trimmed and cut to size. Their closed-cell structure produces clean, even cut surfaces.
EPP boards can be processed at densities of up to approximately 40 kg/m³. Typical applications include model making, wings and technical contours.
In addition to boards, small EPS blocks up to approximately 650 mm high can be processed. They can be used to produce models, contours and boards of customized thickness.
Depending on the cut required, you can place the material flat or upright on the machine table.
For most cuts, place the material flat on the machine table, align it and start the CNC cutting program.
This produces profiles, letters, contours and other custom 2D cuts. Small blocks can be processed in the same way.
Hot wire cutting applies no mechanical cutting force: the cutting wire separates the material thermally. The material is not displaced during cutting and does not need to be clamped.
Boards can also be positioned vertically on the machine table. Several boards can be placed side by side and cut to the same contour in a single operation.
Because cutting involves no mechanical force, boards approximately 2 cm thick or thicker can stand on their own without clamping.
Practical tip: Thinner boards can easily be secured with a small piece of double-sided tape between the table and the board.
This method is particularly suitable for batch cutting identical parts.
Both the CUT1610S and CUT1610SV are 4-axis CNC hot wire cutting machines. The CUT1610S has a fixed wire length, while the CUT1610SV allows the wire length to be adjusted to the part.
The CUT1610S has a fixed machine table and a wire length of 1,250 mm.
We recommend the CUT1610S for customers who mainly make parallel cuts and only rarely, if ever, cut different contours on the two sides.
Typical applications include:
The CUT1610SV can do everything the CUT1610S can do, while its adjustable table and wire length provide much greater flexibility for 4-axis cutting.
The wire length can be adjusted individually to the part between 450 and 1,250 mm.
We recommend the CUT1610SV for customers who frequently make twisted cuts or regularly produce parts with different contours on the two sides.
Typical applications include:
The shorter wire stays tighter and follows the contour more precisely.
The achievable cutting speed depends mainly on the material, its density and the wire temperature.
Typical cutting speeds are approximately 400–650 mm/min for EPS and 350–400 mm/min for XPS and EPP.
The limiting factors in hot wire cutting are primarily the wire and the material, not the machine: the heated wire melts through the material without mechanical contact.
The CUT1600S Series uses our TiTA64 cutting wire with a diameter of 0.35 mm.
The CUT1600S Series uses our TiTA64 cutting wire with a diameter of 0.35 mm. Developed specifically for hot wire cutting, it is heat-resistant and highly resistant to breaking.
Tension springs compensate for the wire expanding as it heats up and keep it taut. Stiffer springs are used for parallel cuts, while softer springs are used for independent cuts with changes in wire length.
The cutting wire is a consumable and can be reordered from cnc-multitool in 50 m rolls.
Create a drawing, generate a machine program and start cutting – the workflow is straightforward and requires no specialized CNC programming skills.
Operation of CUT1600S Series machines is deliberately simple, even without prior CNC experience: draw, cut, done.
The process is always the same: create a drawing, generate the machine program and start the cut. The machine then completes the cutting process automatically.
If a cut is not right the first time, simply revise the drawing and cut again – without complicated programming at the machine.
Drawing, CAM and machine control software are used in the workflow, with the individual programs kept separate.
First, create the contour in suitable drawing software or import an existing drawing.
The CAM software converts the drawing into the appropriate machine program for cutting.
Load the completed program into the machine software, prepare the cut and start it.
We provide direct support by phone, email or remote assistance. Many questions and problems can be resolved quickly this way.
CUT1600S Series machines are designed with easily accessible key components that customers can replace themselves after brief instructions.
We stock the necessary spare and wear parts and ship them promptly.
CUT1600S Series machines are single-wire machines with a sturdy machine table and four CNC-controlled axes.
The machine table is made of welded, powder-coated steel profiles.
The CUT1610S has a fixed machine table. On the CUT1610SV, the distance between the two machine sides can be adjusted.
The matching work surfaces for the machine table are included in delivery and provide a support surface for the material.
The CUT1610S and CUT1610SV have four CNC-controlled cutting axes. Both ends of the cutting wire can move in parallel or independently.
Parallel movement produces standard 2D contours and straight cuts. Independent axis movement makes it possible to connect different contours on either side.
This also allows tapered and twisted 4-axis cuts.
The cutting wire is held between the cutting arms by mechanical spring tension and can be attached or removed without tools.
Different springs are used depending on the type of cut: stiffer springs for parallel cuts and softer springs for independent axis movements that change the wire length.
4-axis CNC controller: Controls the machine; CNC cutting programs are transferred from the Windows PC and executed. With the optional relay box, the cutting wire can also be switched on and off directly through the machine software.
Power supply with automatic current regulation: Supplies the cutting wire with the required power and keeps the heating output as consistent as possible when wire length changes.
