Does the material need to be secured?
Hot wire cutting is force-free: the wire melts through the material without contact, with no cutting pressure. Blocks and sheets therefore do not need to be elaborately clamped. From around 20 mm thickness most sheets stand on their own; thinner ones are held by a small piece of double-sided tape.
How wide is the cutting gap?
The cutting gap (kerf) is around 1–2 mm and can be set directly on the device via the wire temperature. In the CAM software you specify the desired gap; it compensates for it automatically so that your parts stay dimensionally accurate.
Is dust produced during cutting?
Hot wire cutting produces no dust: the material is melted, not sawn.
How loud is the machine?
Almost silent – at most you hear the quiet hum of the axis drives. The cutting itself is practically silent.
Can I cut three-dimensionally shaped parts?
Yes. The left and right axis units work independently, so the wire follows different contours at each end – this creates tapered and independent shapes such as wings. Freely modelled 3D surfaces as in milling are, however, not possible with hot wire.
Can I cut several parts in one pass?
Yes. You arrange several parts in one drawing and cut them one after another in a single program. You can also lay several sheets side by side and cut them together – this saves time and makes optimal use of the working surface.
Do I need CNC experience?
No. Anyone who can draw a contour on a computer can work with the CUT2000S – the path from drawing to cut is deliberately simple.
How much maintenance does the machine need?
Very little. The main wear parts are the cutting wire and tension springs. The spindle drives of the axes should be greased from time to time – otherwise the machine needs no special care.
Can I get spare and wear parts?
Yes. Wear and spare parts such as cutting wire and springs are available from us directly at any time.
Does the work area need ventilation?
Light fumes can arise during cutting. Depending on the material, room size and duration of use, adequate ventilation is therefore needed. If you cannot ensure this, order the machine optionally with an enclosure and extraction connection – available only together with the machine and not retrofittable.
How often does the cutting wire need changing?
The wire lasts a long time; how often it is changed depends on material and use. The change is done in just a few steps.
Is the CUT2000S suitable for series production?
The CUT2000S is suited to one-off parts, recurring cut parts and smaller batches from sheets and blocks. For permanently high volumes and industrial series production, our larger production machines are designed.
