Produce tapered roof insulation in-house

The FW5000HR Series was developed for companies that want to manufacture tapered insulation and roof elements from stone wool, PIR, PU and PUR flexibly in their own production facilities.

Cutting is performed using a fast-running cutting wirethat cuts the material abrasively – mechanically, without heat input. The endless wire reaches speeds of almost 300 km/h.

Board and block production on one machine: Individual boards pass continuously through the inclined cutting wire on the integrated conveyor belt. Material blocks are processed by CNC with independently controlled Y axes. Both methods are available on the same machine.

This allows you to manufacture tapered boards, valley and hip boards, insulation wedges and individual contours from boards or blocks. Roof crickets consist of several individually manufactured elements.

The key advantage: Valley and hip boards are manufactured from a single piece – not assembled from several separate parts.

For roof insulation applications using EPS, XPS or Neopor we recommend our RoofCut Series .

FW5000HR SERIES

What production tasks can it perform?

The FW5000HR Series can be used both for customer-specific project orders and for the advance production of regularly required roof elements .

Produce customer orders

Tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and custom roof elements can be produced directly to customer order .

This allows you to respond directly in your own production to different roof geometries, revised dimensions or urgently needed components.

Small batches and repeat orders can also be produced flexibly without having to purchase finished roof elements from external suppliers.

Produce roof elements for stock

Roof elements that are needed regularly can be pre-produced and held in stock .

Frequently used tapered boards and standard sizes can therefore be made before a specific customer order is received.

This gives you your own inventory, allowing you to respond faster and more independently of external delivery times .

What materials can I process?

The FW5000HR Series processes stone wool, PIR, PU and PUR. Typical roof elements are produced from starting formats measuring 1 × 1 m .

Stone wool

Stone wool is processed in board form. Boards can already be ordered in the required 1 × 1 m format .

Longer boards are cut to the required starting format on the FW5000HR first.

The prepared boards are then processed into tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets or custom cut parts.

Stone wool boards for the FW5000HR Series

PIR, PU and PUR

PIR, PU and PUR are mainly processed as blocks. Typical standard blocks are approximately 2,000 or 2,500 mm long.

For roof production, the blocks are first cut directly on the FW5000HR to the required starting format .

The prepared formats are then processed into tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets, insulation wedges or custom cut parts.

For roof insulation applications using EPS or Neopor blocks we recommend our RoofCut Series .

How can I produce?

The FW5000HR Series can be used in several ways depending on the raw material and desired roof element.

Board mode

In board mode, individual boards are pushed manually over the front roller conveyor onto the conveyor belt integrated into the machine table.

The conveyor belt moves the boards continuously through the inclined cutting wire. Each starting board is thereby divided into two tapered boards.

After cutting, the finished boards leave the machine via the rear roller conveyor and can be removed or processed further.

Board processing mode of the FW5000HR Series

Block mode

In block mode, the block is pushed manually from the front roller conveyor onto the integrated conveyor belt, which transports it into the machine.

A photoelectric sensor detects the leading edge of the material and automatically sets a defined material zero point for the subsequent cutting process.

During cutting, the CNC machine table moves the block through the wire in a controlled manner. The two Y axes can move independently.

This allows different slopes, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and other roof elements to be cut directly from the block.

After cutting, the material can be transported by the integrated conveyor belt either back to the starting position or to the opposite side of the machine for removal or further processing.

Block processing with automatic material transport on the FW5000HR

CNC contour cutting

In addition to typical roof elements, the FW5000HR Series can cut individual contours from boards or blocks using one CNC-controlled cutting wire.

This also allows more complex geometries to be cut precisely and repeatably .

Cut blocks to length

Larger PIR, PU or PUR blocks can be cut directly on the FW5000HR before actual roof-element production to the required starting dimensions .

For example, standard blocks measuring 2,000 or 2,500 mm in length can be reduced to the starting format required for subsequent roof production.

Which machine should I choose?

The FW5030HR and FW5130HR differ primarily in working height.

The FW5030HR processes boards and blocks up to 650 mm working height. The FW5130HR provides for taller blocks up to 1,250 mm working height. Both models support the same fundamental roof applications.

Another key planning consideration is the space requirement: with the front and rear roller conveyors, the machine forms a line approximately 11 m long – identical for both models.

How fast can I cut?

Processing time depends on material, density and cutting task. Test cuts provide a realistic estimate.

The material determines the cutting speed

The achievable cutting speed depends on material, density and cutting task and cannot be stated as a universal value.

For reliable figures, we are happy to perform test cuts with your material in our sample production facility.

Typical production times

The following practical figures relate to different production tasks. A roof cricket consists of many individually manufactured elementsthat are subsequently assembled. The stated time refers to the production of these elements and not to one individual cut.

2 tapered boards 1 × 1 m: approx. 1 minute.

1 valley and 1 hip board: approx. 2 minutes.

Elements for 1 roof cricket: approx. 45 minutes.

The figures are practical values and may vary depending on material, dimensions and cutting task.

Which cutting wire is used?

The FW5000HR uses a fast-running abrasive endless wire – mechanically, without heat input.

The FW5000HR uses a fast-running cutting wirethat cuts the material mechanically, without heat.

The cutting wire consists of several core wires around which another wire is wound. Different windings are used according to material to achieve good cutting quality and speed.

The cutting wire has a diameter of 1.2 to 1.6 mm. The cutting wire is a consumable. Its service life depends particularly on the material, its density and the amount cut and cannot be specified universally.

How easy is the machine to operate?

For standard roof elements, enter dimensions and slope directly in the machine plugin – no CNC programming needed.

Operating the FW5000HR is very straightforward. To produce typical roof elements using the parameter-based roof plugins you need no CAD drawings or CNC programming knowledge. Custom contours, however, may require a CAD drawing.

For tapered boards, enter the required dimensions and slope directly in the Roof Machine Plugin ; the software automatically positions the wire and starts the cutting process. No CAD drawing is required for this standard operation – enter parameters and cut.

Many customers learn to operate the machine and its applications independently using our manuals and training material.

We also offer software and application training at our facility in Ilmenau, on site at the customer's premises or online via TeamViewer.

Machine features

The FW5000HR Series is designed for reliable everyday production: robust steel construction with integrated conveyor belt, powerful wire drive and practical operating and safety systems.

Stable steel construction with integrated conveyor belt

The machine frame and worktable consist of welded and painted steel profiles. The robust, open design ensures smooth running and repeatable cut results while remaining easily accessible.

A conveyor belt is integrated into the machine table, so the material is positioned and moved through the machine in a controlled manner. An integrated photoelectric sensor detects the leading edge of the material and sets a defined zero point for repeatable production.

Stable steel construction with integrated conveyor belt of the FW5000HR Series

Independently controlled Y axes

The FW5000HR Series has two independently controlled Y axes on the left and right sides of the cutting wire. Each end can be positioned at a different height, allowing not only straight cuts but also defined slopes and height profiles .

Independent axis control is the technical basis for tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and other roof elements. Both axes move together for straight cuts and independently where different heights are required.

Independently controlled YL and YR axes of the FW5000HR Series

Powerful cutting-wire motor

The continuously running cutting wire is driven by a powerful 4 kW three-phase motor . This allows even high-density materials to be cut without the wire losing speed under load.

The wire speed is controlled directly through the machine software and adjusted to the respective material.

Powerful cutting-wire motor of the FW5000HR Series

Pneumatic wire tensioning with wire-break shutdown

During operation, the cutting wire is pneumatically tensioned. Constant tension prevents sagging and vibrations and is essential for clean, smooth cut surfaces without grooves.

If the wire is damaged or an unexpected event occurs along its path, the machine stops automatically. After inspection or wire replacement, the program continues from the stop position.

Enclosed cutting arms for dust protection

Abrasive cutting generates dust that must be extracted. The cutting arms are therefore enclosed and fitted with two 100 mm extraction connections .

You can use an extraction system supplied by us or a suitable third-party system.

Enclosed cutting arms and extraction for the FW5000HR Series

Front and rear roller conveyors

There are roller conveyors for material loading and unloadingat the front and rear of the machine. Boards and blocks arrive at table height and are moved out of the working area after cutting.

The roller conveyors simplify handling of large or heavy material. Together with the integrated belt they provide a continuous material path from loading to unloading.
