Produce your own tapered insulation

The FW5000HR series was developed for operations that want to produce tapered insulation and roof insulation components made of stone wool, PIR, PU and PUR flexibly in their own production.

Cutting is done with a fast-circulating cutting wire that separates the material abrasively – mechanically and without heat input. The continuous wire reaches speeds of nearly 300 km/h.

Tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets, insulation wedges and custom contours can be produced directly from board or block material.

The decisive advantage: valley and hip boards are produced from a single piece – not from several assembled parts.

For roof applications made of EPS, XPS or Neopor we recommend our RoofCut series .

Which materials can I process?

The FW5000HR series processes stone wool, PIR, PU and PUR. For typical roof insulation components, 1 × 1 m starting formats are used.

Stone wool

Stone wool is processed as board material. The boards can already be ordered in the matching 1 × 1 m format.

Longer board formats are cut to the required starting format on the FW5000HR beforehand.

The boards are then further processed into tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets or custom cuts.

Stone wool boards for the FW5000HR series

PIR, PU and PUR

PIR, PU and PUR are processed predominantly as block material. Common standard blocks are about 2,000 or 2,500 mm long.

For roof insulation production, the blocks are first cut directly on the FW5000HR to the starting format.

The prepared starting formats are then further processed into tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets, insulation wedges or custom cuts.

For roof applications made of EPS or Neopor blocks we recommend our RoofCut series .

How can I produce?

Depending on the starting material and the desired roof insulation component, the FW5000HR series can be used in different ways.

Board mode

In board mode, individual boards are pushed manually via the front roller conveyor onto the conveyor belt integrated into the machine table.

The conveyor belt transports the boards continuously through the angled cutting wire. Each starting board is cut into two tapered boards.

The finished boards are then guided out of the machine via the rear roller conveyor and can be removed or further processed directly.

Board mode of the FW5000HR series

Block mode

In block mode, the block is pushed manually via the front roller conveyor onto the conveyor belt integrated into the machine table and transported from there into the machine.

A light barrier detects the start of the material and automatically determines the defined material zero point for the subsequent cutting process.

During cutting, the CNC machine table moves the block in a controlled manner through the cutting wire. The two Y axes can travel independently of each other.

This makes it possible to cut different slopes, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and other roof insulation components directly from the block.

After the cutting process, the material can be transported via the integrated conveyor belt either back to the starting point or to the opposite side of the machine and removed or further processed there.

CNC contour cutting

In addition to typical roof insulation components, the FW5000HR series can also cut custom contours from boards or blocks CNC-controlled with a cutting wire.

This makes it possible to cut even more complex geometries precisely and reproducibly.

Cutting custom contours with the FW5000HR series

Cutting blocks to length

Larger blocks made of PIR, PU or PUR can be cut to the required starting format directly on the FW5000HR before the actual roof insulation production.

For example, standard blocks 2,000 or 2,500 mm long can be cut to the starting format needed for further roof insulation production.

Which machine should I choose?

The most important difference between the FW5030HR and FW5130HR is the available working height.

Also important for planning is the space requirement: with front and rear roller conveyors, the machine forms a continuous line of about 11 m in length – the same for both models.

How fast can I cut?

The material determines the cutting speed

How fast cutting can be done depends on material, density and cutting task and cannot be stated in general terms.

For reliable figures, we are happy to carry out test cuts with your material in our sample production.

Typical production times

2 tapered boards 1 × 1 m: approx. 1 minute.

1 valley and 1 hip board: approx. 2 minutes.

1 roof cricket: approx. 45 minutes.

These figures are practical values and may vary depending on material, dimensions and cutting task.

FW5000HR SERIES

Which cutting wire is used?

The FW5000HR works with a fast-circulating cutting wire that cuts the material mechanically and without heat input.

The cutting wire consists of several wire cores around which another wire is wound. Depending on the material, different windings are used to achieve the best possible cutting quality and cutting speed.

The cutting wire used has a diameter of 1.2 to 1.6 mm.

How easy is it to operate?

Operating the FW5000HR is very easy. To produce your roof insulation components you need no drawings and no CNC programming.

For tapered boards, you enter the desired dimensions and the slope directly in the Roof machine plugin; the software sets the cutting wire automatically and starts the cutting sequence. No drawing, no programming – simply cut.

Many of our customers get to grips with the operation and applications on their own using our instructions and training materials.

In addition, we offer software and application training at our facility in Ilmenau, on site at the customer or online via TeamViewer.

FW5000HR SERIES

Which software is used?

For typical roof insulation components from boards you need no CAD or CAM knowledge – they are created directly via the Roof machine plugin. For production from blocks and for custom contours, the CAM software styroCAM Roof is additionally available.

Roof machine plugin

The Roof machine plugin (Standard) included in the scope of delivery creates tapered boards from boards that are fed in via the conveyor belt: you enter dimensions and parameters, and the software automatically calculates wire positioning and cutting sequence – without CNC programming.

With the optional Roof machine plugin (Pro) you additionally produce valley boards, hip boards and roof crickets from boards – CNC-controlled on the machine table.

styroCAM Roof for blocks and custom contours

For production from blocks you use our CAM software styroCAM Roof. Tapered boards, valley and hip boards as well as roof crickets are created CNC-controlled and likewise via parameters – only for custom contours do you import a DXF or DWG drawing, which is prepared into the machine program.

We supply the FW5000HR with our cloud-based CAM software styroCAM Roof (included for the first year). The machine is not tied to styroCAM Roof – another suitable CAM software can also be used.

FW5000HR SERIES

Which tasks does it take on in my production?

The FW5000HR series can be used both for project-based customer orders and for the pre-production of regularly needed roof insulation components.

Producing customer orders

Tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and custom roof insulation components can be produced directly to customer order.

This lets you respond to different roof geometries, changed dimensions or components needed at short notice directly in your own production.

Smaller quantities and reorders can also be produced flexibly, without having to order finished roof insulation components externally.

Producing roof insulation components for stock

Regularly needed roof insulation components can be pre-produced and put into stock.

Particularly frequently needed tapered boards and standard dimensions can thus be produced already before a specific customer order is placed.

This provides your own inventory and lets you respond to new orders faster and more independently of external lead times.

Machine features

The FW5000HR series is designed for reliable work in daily production operation: a sturdy steel construction with integrated conveyor belt, a powerful wire drive and practical operating and safety systems.

Sturdy steel construction with integrated conveyor belt

The machine frame and work table are made of welded and painted steel profiles. The solid, open construction ensures smooth running and reproducible cutting results while remaining easily accessible.

A conveyor belt is integrated into the machine table – the material is not only positioned but also moved through the machine in a controlled manner during the production sequence. An integrated light barrier detects the start of the material and provides a defined zero point, for reproducible, recurring production sequences.

Independently traveling Y axes

The FW5000HR series has two independently controllable Y axes to the left and right of the cutting wire. This allows the wire to be positioned at different heights on both sides – so in addition to straight cuts, defined slopes and height profiles are possible.

This independent axis control is the technical basis for tapered boards, valley and hip boards, roof crickets and other roof insulation components. For straight cuts both axes work together; when different heights are needed, YL and YR are positioned independently.

Independently traveling YL and YR axes of the FW5000HR series

Powerful cutting wire motor

The circulating cutting wire is driven by a strong 4-kW three-phase motor. This makes it possible to cut even high-density materials without the wire losing speed under load.

The wire speed is controlled directly via the machine software and adapted to the respective material.

Powerful cutting wire motor of the FW5000HR series

Pneumatic wire tensioning with wire-break shut-off

The cutting wire is tensioned pneumatically during operation. The constant tension prevents sagging and vibration – a prerequisite for clean, smooth cut surfaces without grooves.

If the wire is damaged or an unforeseen event occurs at the wire run, the machine stops automatically. After inspection or wire replacement, the program continues at the stop point.

Enclosed cutting arms as dust protection

Abrasive cutting produces dust that must be extracted. For this, the cutting arms are enclosed and prepared with two 100 mm extraction connections.

An extraction system offered by us or a suitable external extraction can be used.

Enclosed cutting arms and extraction of the FW5000HR series

Front and rear roller conveyor

In front of and behind the machine there are roller conveyors for material feed and removal. Boards and blocks are thus brought to the machine at working height and transported out of the working area again after cutting.

Especially with larger or heavier materials, the roller conveyors make handling easier. Together with the integrated conveyor belt, a continuous material path is created from loading to removal.

Control PC package

Together with the machine software, control system and Roof machine plugin, the computer system forms the operating environment of the FW5000HR. It is delivered ready for operation with a current Windows Pro license – computer, interfaces and software are matched to one another.

All computer systems from cnc-multitool have a second SSD as a backup drive.

Dust-protected control console directly at the machine

The control console sits directly at the FW5000HR and is designed dust-protected for the production environment. Computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and the operating elements are arranged at a fixed workstation.

This gives the operator the machine, software and production documents right where they are needed – controlling the cutting process from the workstation at the machine.
