CNC hot wire cutting machines for contours and cut parts from XPS boards and special formats.
XPS is extruded polystyrene, also known as Styrodur. The material is closed-cell, particularly uniform and considerably denser than EPS – which allows it to be cut very cleanly with the hot wire.
XPS is produced by extrusion and – unlike EPS or Neopor – does not come as a block, but exclusively as a board. Common standard formats range from around 1,250 × 600 mm to 2,000 × 600 mm, in thicknesses up to 200 mm. Some manufacturers also offer special thicknesses – but these are not a standard.
Because of its dense, uniform structure, vibrations of the cutting wire become visible on the cut surface faster with XPS than with EPS. XPS should therefore always be cut with the shortest possible wire length required for the respective board format.
Match the wire length to the board length: for boards up to 1,250 mm a wire length of 1,250 mm is sufficient; for longer boards the wire should be no more than 2,000 mm (2 m).
For XPS we use single-wire machines. What matters most is the size of your boards and the working area you need.
Then the CUT1600S Series is the compact solution. The 4-axis CNC hot wire machine is designed for XPS boards and smaller workpieces and can cut straight, conical and twisted contours.
Typical: letters, logos, models, design objects, profiles and individual contours from XPS.

Then the CUT2000S Series is the right machine class. It combines a larger working range with four CNC axes and is suitable for single parts, recurring cuts and smaller series.
Typical: profiles, technical contours, letters, logos, samples and recurring cuts from XPS boards.

Then the CUT3000S Series is made for you. The large, open machine table allows the processing of large-format XPS boards and special formats that go beyond typical standard boards.
Typical: large contours, profiles and special cuts from large-format XPS boards.

XPS only comes as a board. Multi-wire and block processes, by contrast, require a block that is cut apart in one pass. For XPS boards, single-wire CNC machining is therefore the right method.
No. XPS is produced by extrusion as a board – there is no XPS block. Block materials are EPS and Neopor, which are cut apart on other machines.
Match the wire length to the board length – the shorter the free wire span, the smoother the cut. For boards up to 1,250 mm a wire length of 1,250 mm is sufficient; for longer boards the wire should be no more than 2,000 mm (2 m).
XPS has a very dense, uniform structure. As a result, vibrations of the cutting wire show on the cut surface more quickly. With a short wire length and suitable cutting parameters you achieve a clean surface.
Straight cuts, 2D profiles as well as conical and twisted 4-axis contours. Typical examples are letters, logos, models, design objects and technical profiles from XPS boards.
The CUT1600S Series is the compact solution for boards and smaller parts, the CUT2000S Series offers more working area for flexible and recurring cuts, and the CUT3000S Series is made for large-format boards and special formats.
All thermally cuttable foams, above all EPS, Styropor and EPP. Insulation materials that cannot be cut thermally, such as stone wool, PIR, PU and PUR, cannot be processed with a hot wire – for these we offer CNC fastwire machines.

Once we know which XPS boards you process, what dimensions they have and what you want to cut from them, the right machine can usually be narrowed down quickly.
