Protective packaging from various materials

Protective packaging is produced from, among others, EPS, EPP, PE, PU and EVA. Depending on the material, part geometry and desired result, a different machining process is used.

EPS is typically cut with hot wire. We process EPP, PE, PU and EVA depending on the application with cold wire (fastwire) or on the CNC router.

This produces simple cuts and 2D contours as well as precise-fit inserts with recesses for tools, devices and sensitive parts.

Choose below what you want to produce.

PROCESS SELECTION

What would you like to produce?

Depending on the material and the desired product, different machine solutions are used – from multi-wire contour cutting through panel and gang cutting to cold wire and CNC routing.

Packaging from EPS?

Thermoplastic EPS (Styrofoam) is cut with hot wire in the Multiwire process – many boards and parts in one pass.

Typical: cushioning boards, cuts and 2D contours in high quantities.

Panels, strips and blocks from EPS?

For these tasks we offer different solutions within our CT series – from cutting several panels in a single pass to splitting entire EPS blocks horizontally and vertically.

Typical: packaging panels, strips, blocks and recurring cuts in larger quantities.

Protective packaging from EPP, PE, PU or EVA?

For EPP, PE foam, PU foam and EVA, cold wire (fastwire) is our suitable solution for clean cuts, boards and 2D contours.

Typical: cushioning and protective cuts from softer packaging foams.

Inserts with recesses?

Tool, device and case inserts as well as transport packaging with cavities – from EPP, PE/PU foam and EVA. The CNC router cuts the recesses to a precise fit.

Typical: precise-fit inserts for tools, devices and sensitive parts.

Frequently asked questions

Which materials can you process?

EPS (Styrofoam), EPP, PE foam, PU foam and EVA.

Which process for which material?

EPS is cut with hot wire. EPP, PE, PU foam and EVA are cut with cold wire or processed into inserts on the CNC router.

What is typically produced?

Cushioning boards, cuts and 2D contours as well as tool, device and case inserts and transport packaging with cavities.

Show more questions

What is the Multiwire process?

Several hot wires cut many boards or parts simultaneously from the EPS block – fast and in high quantities.

Cut or milled insert – what is the difference?

The cut provides boards and 2D contours; the milled insert has 3D recesses into which tools or devices fit precisely.

Why cold wire instead of hot wire for EPP, PE and PU?

These foams are not thermoplastic and do not melt – they are separated abrasively with cold wire.
