EPS and EPP are the classic materials for wings and drone bodies. CNC hot wire cutting produces aerodynamic profiles more precisely than any other process.
Wings made from EPS and EPP have one thing in common: they are tapered. Leading and trailing edges have different profiles, width varies along the span. This is exactly the strength of 4-axis hot wire cutting - left and right sides of the wire move independently and produce the desired aerodynamic contour in a single cut.
A wing has a thicker profile at the root than at the tip. Leading and trailing edges are not parallel. This geometry is classic for 4-axis cutting: the left side of the wire follows the root profile, the right side the tip profile - in a single cut the complete aerodynamic contour is created. No routing, no reworking, no material removal.
The CNC hot wire is used in the drone industry and in model making for a wide range of parts: wings with aerodynamic profiles, fuselages and nacelles as bodies of revolution (with a rotary table), flying-wing wings as tapered 4-axis cuts, aerodynamic fairings, gliders and powered gliders in EPS, FPV racer frames in EPP. Film studios and aerospace companies use the CUT3000S to produce aerodynamic EPS components.
For wings up to a 2500 mm span, the CUT2500S is the right choice. For larger spans and industrial production, the CUT3000S. For wings with strong twist - a strong profile change between root and tip - we recommend the automatic wire tensioner. It prevents wire breakage at extreme angle differences.
The key questions and answers on this topic.
Yes. The 4-axis hot wire cut is ideal for wings - the left and right sides move independently and create the aerodynamic contour in a single cut.
EPS for light gliders, scale models and industrial drones. EPP for FPV racers and impact-resistant applications - elastic and springs back.
For wings with strong twist - a large profile change between root and tip - we recommend the automatic wire tensioner. It prevents wire breakage at extreme angle differences.
We advise on the right machine and settings for aerodynamic EPS and EPP components.
