Material Handling in CNC Hot Wire Cutting

The machine is fast - but how does the block get there? Material handling is often underestimated.

Material Handling Is Part of Production

Many businesses buy a fast machine and only then think about how the large and heavy EPS blocks get to the machine. EPS blocks can weigh up to 500 kg - they cannot be moved by hand. A good material handling concept is just as important as the machine itself.

Typical Block Weights

  • EPS 15 kg/m³: approx. 15-30 kg per standard block
  • EPS 20 kg/m³: approx. 20-40 kg per standard block
  • Large blocks 1200×600×2500 mm: up to 90 kg
  • Neopor blocks: similar to EPS depending on density
  • Industrial blocks for CUT5000S: up to 500 kg and more

Loading Concepts for Different Machine Sizes

For small machines such as the CUT1600S and CUT2000S, light EPS blocks can still be loaded by hand. From the CUT2500S onwards we recommend trolley systems for fast material changes. For large machines such as the CUT3000S and CUT5000S a forklift or crane is necessary. The machine table of the cnc-multitool machines is accessible from all sides - this makes loading considerably easier.

Open Machine Table - an Advantage of cnc-multitool

All cnc-multitool machines have an open machine table that is accessible from all sides. No closed frame restricting loading - blocks can be loaded from the front, from the side or from above. This saves time during material changes and enables flexible loading concepts.

The key questions and answers on this topic.

Show questions

How do large EPS blocks get to the machine?

Depending on machine size and block weight: small blocks by hand, medium ones with a trolley, large ones with a forklift or crane. From approx. 50 kg aids are sensible.

Can the machine table be loaded from all sides?

With cnc-multitool machines yes - the open machine table is accessible from all sides. This enables flexible loading concepts and saves time during material changes.
