When Does a Multi-Wire Machine Pay Off?

Up to 20 wires simultaneously - but only when production is really suited for it.

Multi-Wire Is Not a Guaranteed Winner

A multi-wire machine can multiply production output - but only under the right conditions. Buying multi-wire without carefully analysing the production risks an expensive machine that never reaches its potential. That is why the rule is: first understand the production, then select the machine.

CUT4000S and CUT5000S - the Multi-Wire Machines

cnc-multitool offers two multi-wire machine series. The CUT4000S with up to 10 wires - the block stays still, the gantry moves. The CUT5000S with up to 20 wires - the block travels through the stationary gantry. Both machines are 2-axis machines - conical or interlocked geometries are not possible.

Requirements for Worthwhile Multi-Wire Operation

  • High quantities - the same contour many times a day
  • Always identical 2D geometries - no mix of variants
  • Workpieces much smaller than the block - several fit side by side
  • Only prismatic shapes - no conical or interlocked geometries
  • Industrial production - roller shutter boxes, profiles, packaging inserts
Neopor: Always Recommend Multi-Wire

For processing Neopor we always recommend multi-wire machines. The graphite content in Neopor deposits on the wire during cutting and cools it down. With single-wire machines and their long cutting times this is particularly problematic. Multi-wire machines have shorter cutting times per wire - the graphite deposit is lower and the process more stable.

Show questions

When does a multi-wire machine pay off?

With genuine series production with high quantities, always identical 2D geometries and workpieces much smaller than the block. For flexible production with changing parts, single-wire is better.

What is the difference between the CUT4000S and the CUT5000S?

CUT4000S: up to 10 wires, stationary block, moving gantry. CUT5000S: up to 20 wires, moving block through a stationary gantry. Both 2-axis only.

Can a multi-wire machine also make 4-axis cuts?

No. Multi-wire machines are always 2-axis machines. For conical or interlocked geometries a single-wire machine is necessary.
