A common misconception: customers choose the wire length based on the maximum size of their EPS block. This almost always leads to oversized machines. The required wire length does not depend on block size – but on which dimension is actually cut in daily production. The rule is simple: wire length as short as possible, as long as needed for daily production.
What matters is which dimension is actually cut in daily production. That dimension is the right wire length – no more and no less. Anyone choosing a wire longer than needed daily pays permanently with poorer cut quality on every cut. Anyone choosing it shorter than needed loses flexibility. The practical rule: which dimension do I cut 80–90% of the time? That is my wire length.
EPS is more forgiving than XPS – but the basic rule still applies: the shorter the wire, the better the quality. Short wires run more stably, vibrate less and allow higher cutting speeds. With long wire lengths – from approx. 3000 mm – dimensional deviations can occur if the block is damp inside or has varying densities. The long wire catches locally and deflects sideways.
The right sequence: first determine the required wire length – based on the daily cutting dimension – then choose the right machine. Anyone needing a specific wire length chooses the machine in that length – not the other way around.
